Statue of Saint Therese
Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus, born in Alençon, France, was a Discalced Carmelite nun. She was an influential model of holiness for Catholics and had a practical and simple way of approaching spiritual life.
Thérèse was devoted to the Child Jesus, to whom she dedicated many writings, poems and prayers.
The Carmelite saint, despite leading a contemplative life, became the patron saint of missions and a Doctor of the Church.
She died very young, on September 30, 1897, at just 24 years old, from tuberculosis.
Saint Thérèse's day is celebrated on October 1.
