Saint Therese
Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus, born in Alençon, France, was a Discalced Carmelite nun. She was an influential model of holiness for Catholics and had a practical and simple way of approaching spiritual life. Thérèse was devoted to the Child Jesus, to whom she dedicated many writings, poems and prayers. The Carmelite saint, despite her contemplative life, became the patron saint of the missions and a Doctor of the Church. She died very young, on September 30, 1897, at only 24 years old, from tuberculosis. Saint Thérèse's day is celebrated on October 1. "The only way to prove my love is by scattering flowers and these flowers are all the little sacrifices, every look, every word and every little act of love."
