Statue of Saint Gonçalo of Amarante
Saint Gonçalo of Amarante, born in 1187 in Vizela, Portugal, was a devout believer and preacher of the Gospel. Under the protection of Our Lady of the Assumption, he built a chapel in Amarante, where he retreated. Today, it is called the Convent of Saint Gonçalo.
During his preaching, he helped and protected the most disadvantaged, earning him an aura of holiness.
His liturgical feast day is celebrated on January 10th.
