Sovereign Mother is an allusion to Our Lady of Mercy, an image venerated in Loulé, Algarve (in Portugal) that represents the Sovereign Mother of all the children of God.

The cult, which began in the 16th century in a small chapel, quickly became very popular. Many faithful flock to her to ask for a remedy for their needs.
