Saint Matthew the Evangelist was one of the apostles of Christ and the author of the Gospel of Matthew.
Before converting to Jesus, Matthew was a tax collector. He took money from the people to give to the Romans. One day, moved by the Word of Jesus, he converted to Christ, abandoning his dissolute life of power and wealth to proclaim the Christian message.
