Our Lady of Remedies, an evocation of Mary, mother of Jesus, gained devotion from the mid-13th century.

Saint John of Matha and Saint Felix of Valois, French founders of the Order of the Holy Trinity, invoked Our Lady's help in the problems they faced in their mission to free enslaved Christians in Africa.

With his help they raised a lot of money and with that they freed many Christians.
