Saint Barbara Magnet
Born at the end of the 3rd century, in Nicomedia, Turkey, Saint Barbara was the only daughter of Dioscorus, a severe and controlling man who imprisoned her in a tower so that she would not be exposed to society, which he considered corrupt and full of bad influences.
Bárbara lived contemplating nature and believed that everything was the work of a greater and unique creator.
Feeling remorse for preventing his daughter from fulfilling her role as a woman and finding a husband, Dioscorus decided to free her so that she could get to know the city.
In the city, Barbara met Christians and learned about the teachings of Jesus, with which she identified. Her father, furious at his daughter's devotion, denounced her and she was tortured in public.
Her own father beheaded her and, at the moment her head rolled to the ground, a thunderclap resounded through the air, shaking the heavens. At the same moment, Dioscorus fell dead.
Saint Barbara became known as the 'protector against lightning and storms'.
